Such a tasty dish! Tonkatsu is a fried pork cutlet. This one is done with panko breadcrumbs, served with shredded cabbage and a sesame-based dressing.
I had originally thought this was miso soup, but it was way spicy for what it was, so I’m not sure.
Tonkatsu is usually sliced into strips and eaten with a sauce that is similar to a BBQ sauce. Katsu, the fried pork, often pops up in other formats, such as in a sandwich on white bread or in my favorite dish, Curry Katsu Don, basically fried pork over rice with a curry sauce. YUM.
